Many people seem confused as to why a woman would celebrate the day she stopped rocking a permed hairdo. They have these reactions that go along the lines of “is it that serious?”
Yes it is my friend.
Saturday marked my second year of being fully natural. I stopped relaxing my hair in December 2010 and did the big chop on April 6, 2011 which made my hair 100% natural with absolutely no chemicals in it. When I decided to stop perming my hair, it honestly was an accident. I just happened to be wearing a sew-in weave at the time and when I took it out, my hair had all these waves and I instantly fell in love.
Two years later, I’m still rocking my natural look and I LOVE IT! I’ve added color several times and tried all types of styles and looks to keep it fresh. Celebrating my hair anniversary is important to me for one main reason – I had enough courage at the moment of my big chop to go against what traditional beauty standards call for. I cut all my hair off and became an example that you can be beautiful in the skin you’re in and you don’t need pounds of weave to look glamorous or feel sexy.
Enjoy a few photos of my hair at various stages in celebration of being two years natural.

Well, I was really scared too but I wanted something different and decided to take the risk! My advice would be to keep it conditioned and moisturized once you do it. I haven’t really done a good job of doing that and one area of my hair is slightly damaged.
