“There is something that you can do better than anyone else in the whole world…”
- Deepak Chopra, 7 Spiritual Laws of Success
I’ve been wrestling with the idea of this post for a while. I was trying to determine if and how it fits with the theme of my blog. Then I remembered…although this blog is heavily centered around entertainment, there is a life component to it as well (as you can see from my logo). This post definitely fits in the life category and after the church sermon I heard yesterday at my church (West Point Baptist Church), I now know I was on the right track.
I recently read Deepak Chopra‘s 7 Spiritual Laws of Success (I wrote about the chapter on karma here) and the last law Chopra discusses fits directly in with the sermon and what I’ve been seeking to find – purpose in life. I think I’ve found my purpose, but I’ll get to that later.
“You have a talent that is unique in its expression, so unique that there’s no one else alive on this planet that has that talent, or that expression of that talent. This means that there’s one thing you can do, and one way of doing it, that is better than anyone else on this entire planet.”
I don’t know about you, but that excites me. It makes me want to find out what my talent (purpose) is! I’m finding that many of my family, friends, loved ones and peers are just existing. They’re working at jobs that they hate, in unhappy relationships, settling for what their current situations are and avoiding the change that may need to take place in their lives to find their purpose.
Sometimes we think our change has to be big or we have to cut the world off – I don’t think that’s always the case. Sometimes you need to change who you listen to, change what you’re reading (hopefully not my blog…hahaha) or maybe you need to change the route you take to work that day. Any change can start the wheel that helps you turn your life into a purposeful one. I’ve come up with many great ideas at the most random times…in the shower, in a dream, exercising, you name it!
I believe my purpose lies in helping others through media and communication. I don’t know if this blog is included in my purpose just yet, but I do know that I’m supposed to be blogging and I’m supposed to be writing. I’ve always been a writer and through this blog, I’ve stopped ignoring that fact. Writing isn’t a popular or big paying job, but I’m good at it, its one of my true passions and it makes me happy. That my friends, is the key!
Pastor Cathey and Deepak Chopra both acknowledge that passion is an important component to finding your purpose. You have to be passionate about it. Here are some suggestions and reminders from both of these thought leaders that may help you find your passion and purpose in life:
- Nothing great happens without passion; passion is at the core of greatness. God wants you to enjoy life and have aim and vision for your life. – Pastor Cathey
- Learn how to reflect properly, sit down and think, connect with God.
- Ask yourself: if money was no concern and you had all the time and money in the world, what would you do? – Deepak Chopra
